ART First, then the sofa!

ART First, then the sofa!

I often talk about the interactions and importance of our 5 senses in design, fundamental to that belief is that emotion should be considered within our designs, interiors and most certainly when collecting ART!

Our unique senses/emotions are what make our space our home.

As an interior designer & interior decorator I am often searching for Artwork for clients homes and collections and my background and studies help me with this process. I have been blessed continue to be, in assisting many private clients/friends over the years w/ their selections.

Art inspires many, myself included, and I adore it!

The Belgian surrealist artist Rene Margitte so perfectly stated;

“Art evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist.”

And, it brings us so much in return…

It teaches.

It expresses ideas, communicates.

It brings out emotions, new perspectives.

It can challenge preconditioned perceptions.

It leads us to question.

It can provide a sense of aesthetic beauty.

It heals.

It can bring great joy.

It gives us meaning.

It helps us understand our world and connect with one another.

It evokes the imagination.

It is treasured.

And we cannot live without it art has been with us since the evolution of mankind.

Everyone should always have art they love in their space; it adds that layer of mystery to an interior.

Jean Luc Godard~

“Art attracts us only by what it reveals of our most secret self.”

So too, in its Collecting & Acquisitions.

A process which can be both daunting & emotional, perhaps because with great art comes great emotion.

Art brings in emotional moments, it will do that, it’s subjective, resonating within us in some profound way.

We all take away a different emotional response….

And this is one reason why when collecting art I say and advise (Tip on Art Acquisitions pg) always find and collect art that truly resonates with you instead of following the latest art trends. Popularity does not guarantee value over the years.

Invest in pieces that speak to you and you LOVE!

So often it’s an after thought, a piece is selected that matches your décor…

it really isn’t about that!

Great art is an investment, pieces you will presumably have for a long time, and if collecting one can always hope for perhaps an increase in their value, but regardless, you want to make sure you LOVE it with or without the décor!

Note~ Art featured on my Art Acquisitions page~

A personal favourite from my collection~

A special piece for many reasons, I am proud to be its custodian.

Shown: Autumn I ~ Amy Dryer

Represented through, long a favourite of mine, Masters Gallery undeniably always the most exceptional caliber of service & collections.

A prolific, talented, much loved Canadian artist found in collections throughout North America.

This piece came to me through an emotional moment, when I first saw it, in that moment, I connected with the loose carefree gestures, bold markings, free, abstract expressionism, I heard & saw music & it matched that moment of a beat in my heart.
